Teacher)

Description of the Position:
Instructor or Assistant Instructor position(s) in the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction. Responsibilities include serving as Lead Teacher in the
Southern Region Early Childhood Programs with three and four year old children
in a public school or community-based prekindergarten classroom.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Serve as a model of early childhood professionalism through interactions with the children, parents, and staff members, teaching practices, planning, and involvement in professional activities.
Work in partnership with team teacher within the prekindergarten classroom.
Participate in the development of family involvement and family literacy programs.
Participate in training and/or university coursework as needed and required.
Collaborate in Child Find activities.
Demonstrate participation in professional activities.
Maintain a system of performance assessment reflective of the development of children.
Serve as primary liaison between the school district or community-based prekindergarten program and the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs.
Cooperate in the collection of evaluation and research information.
Participate in the annual performance review.
Requirements for the Position:
The position requires a Baccalaureate Degree with a specialty in Early Childhood Education with a Type 02 or Type 04 certificate.
Philosophical orientation consistent with developmentally appropriate educational practices as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children
Early Childhood Special Education endorsement is highly valued.
Participation in and contribution to professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels is highly desirable.
This is a security-sensitive position. Prior to an offer of employment a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check, will be conducted.
Appointment and Salary: This is a term appointment. Service in the position does not count toward tenure. This appointment is for a ten month period of time. Continuation in the position will depend on performance and the extension of funding by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Effective Date of Employment: Appointment dates are open. Position
vacancies will be filled as needs arise for the Academic Year 09-10.
