Instructor (Program Coordinator)

Description of the Position: Instructor position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to serve as Program Coordinator for the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs. Responsibilities include oversight of an integrated early childhood program.

Requirements of the Applicant:

  1. This position requires a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and at least five years of experience in early childhood education.
  2. Philosophical orientation consistent with developmentally appropriate educational practices as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
  3. Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Project Approach is preferred.
  4. Participation in and contribution to professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels is highly desirable.

This is a security-sensitive position. Prior to an offer of employment a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check, will be conducted. 

Duties of the Positions:

  1. Coordinate the delivery of an integrated early childhood curriculum.
  2. Supervise program lead teachers, assistant teachers, and family educators.
  3. Conduct teacher and/or family educator evaluations at regularly scheduled intervals.
  4. Coordinate the implementation of an appropriate program for family involvement.
  5. Provide for professional development of teaching staff based on needs and/or interests as identified in Professional Development Portfolios.
  6. Participate in the development of an ongoing program of professional development, including seminars, conferences, local professional development committees, and individual consultations.
  7. Collaborate with community service programs to best serve program school districts and community based programs, including child find efforts.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with public school district and community based program administrations.
  9. Serve as a model early childhood professional through interactions with children, parents, staff, supervision, presentations, professional conduct, and involvement in professional activities.
  10. Participate in activities appropriate to the enhancement of the early childhood profession.

Appointment and Salary: This is a term appointment. Service in the position does not count toward tenure. This appointment is for a ten month period of time. Continuation in the position is contingent upon performance and extension of funding.

Effective Date of Employment: Appointment dates are open. Position vacancies will be filled as needs arise for the Academic year 09-10.
