Description of Position: Visiting Instructor/Visiting Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Workforce Education and Development with specialization in education, training, and development.

The Department of Workforce Education and Development has delivered an on-site Baccalaureate Degree program with a major in Workforce Education and Development since 1973. The program is currently offered on Great Lakes NTC, IL. On all matters pertaining to the operation of the program, Visiting Instructors/Visiting Assistant Professors are accountable to the Department of Workforce Education and Development and to the College of Education and Human Services.

Responsibilities of the Position: Visiting Instructors/Visiting Assistant Professors teaching in the Baccalaureate Degree program are responsible for teaching regular courses as assigned by the Department Chairperson. Each course meets for four weekends during a regular academic trimester (three weekends of classroom instruction; one weekend using technology-enhanced distance learning activities). Off-campus courses are taught by full-time SIUC faculty and Visiting Instructors/Visiting Assistant Professors in the geographical area. THE INTENT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY A POOL OF VISITING INSTRUCTORS/VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSORS WHO ARE QUALIFIED TO DELIVER COURSES IN A WEEKEND FORMAT AND SUPERVISE STUDENT WORK.

Requirements of Candidates:

  1. Master's degree required (doctorate preferred) in one of the following areas; workforce education, career and technical education, training and development, adult education, human resources, appropriate instructional systems design specialties, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of three years of documented experience in instructing/facilitating learning of adult students, preferably at the college level.
  3. Experience in the application of ISD principles in the workplace.
  4. Graduate-level course work in one or more of the following areas: adult learning theory, instructional methodology, curriculum development, needs assessment, training evaluation, training systems management, foundations of vocational/career and technical education.

Appointment and Salary: Qualifications of candidate will determine faculty rank and salary. These are term, non-tenure-accruing positions. Appointment periods are for two (2) months with consideration for reappointment. After initial screening of applications, if selected and approved as a finalist, candidates will be expected to interview with an off-campus faculty member at the nearest location where the program is offered.
