Lecturers (Communication Design) (Variable-time)
School of Art and Design
 

Position: Variable Time Term Lecturers in Design (with possibility of renewal)

Qualifications: MFA in Design or related field preferred. In lieu of the MFA, candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Art or Design, plus design experience and accomplishments equivalent to an MFA.

This position requires the understanding and ability to teach both 2-D and 3-D design, with emphases in typography, digital media, web design, and computer-aided design, publication/ print production, design process, professional practice and presentation. The applicant will augment faculty expertise in an on-going communication and industrial design curriculum. College teaching experience is desired. Candidates should be fluent and well versed in Macintosh based computer software including InDesign, Illustrator, Photo Shop, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash.

Duties:

  1. Teach undergraduate level communication design courses.
  2. Participate with colleagues in the design area in course development and planning.
  3. The successful candidate must communicate effectively and work within a team environment.

The School: The School of Art and Design employs a Microcomputer Support Specialist to oversee its computer lab with 26 Macintosh G5 and Mac Pro machines. Those machines have a comprehensive set of software including all of the applications listed above, as well as Triz, Alias, and Vellum Solids software, and Microsoft Office applications and utilities. The lab's hardware includes color flatbed scanners and slide scanners. Printers include a 44" wide full-color plotter and l 1x17" laser printers, both full color and black/white. All junior and senior level students are required to have their own laptop computer with all required software, and many classes are taught in Wi-Fi-equipped classrooms supporting integration of hand and computer skills. The Design program has 150 majors.

The School of Art and Design offers: a BFA degree with specializations in Art Education, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Glass, Metals, Industrial Design, and Communication Design; BA degrees in Art Education, Art History, General Design and General Studio; a BS degree in Education with a specialization in Art (offered through the College of Education); an MFA degree with specializations in Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Glass, Metals/ Blacksmithing; and a graduate certificate in Art History.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
