Lecturer (Variable-time) (Musical Theater Dance)
Department of Theater and School of Music
Position: Variable Time Lecturer in Musical Theater Dance.
Qualifications: MFA in dance or equivalent professional experience as a music theater dancer or choreographer. Strong technical skills in tap, ballet and jazz dance and a strong knowledge of musical theater dance styles, history and repertory. Experience as a musical theater choreographer and/or dance captain preferred.
Duties: Teaching courses in intermediate and advanced level music theater dance, choreographing or assisting choreographers on seasonal musicals, and depending on qualifications, possibility to teach movement for actors and special topics in dance.
The Department: The Department of Theater, a division of the College of Liberal Arts, offers a B.A. Degree and M.F.A. Degree in theater with specializations in the areas of Directing, Playwriting, Design and Production. Doctoral studies in theater are sponsored through the Department of Speech Communication. The Department of Theater has an active production program in cooperation with the School of Music, and a staff of nine faculty and two professional staff Student enrollment approximates 100. SIUC is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Doctoral/Research University--Extensive Southern Illinois University at Carbondale is a public institution with an enrollment of over 20,000.
