Assistant Professor (Microbial Pathogenesis/Host-Pathogens Interactions)
Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor with a start date of August 16, 2010.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and have a record of discipline-specific postdoctoral research training by the time of appointment. The applicant must also have either an externally funded research program or the potential to develop one, as well as a significant record of relevant peer-reviewed publication. We are looking for a faculty member who will perform basic or applied biomedical research in the general area of medical microbiology. Preference will be given to individuals whose training and research involve the molecular aspects of host-microbial interactions or host immune defenses. The successful applicant will participate in introductory microbiology courses and teach an advanced undergraduate/graduate course in immunology.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a large, public, comprehensive research-intensive university situated in a pleasant small-town setting southeast of St. Louis. SIUC is seeking to enhance interdisciplinary research and is a leading public research university. The Department of Microbiology, with a current faculty of eight, offers an undergraduate Microbiology degree as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees through the interdisciplinary Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry Graduate Program (http://www.micro.siu.edu/).
