Position/Rank: Lecturers/Assistant
Instructors (variable-time) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Appointment Date: To be determined.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Asst. Instructor) with
Master's or Ph.D. degree (Lecturer) preferred. Education and experience must be
appropriate for the teaching assignment. Evidence of teaching experience
preferred and professional experience required. Ability to teach digital media
applications, such as publication design, online journalism at the undergraduate
and graduate levels is preferred.
Responsibilities: Teach one or more introductory or advanced
courses in advertising, visual communication, digital communication, electronic
publishing or news-editorial journalism during Fall 2008 and Spring 2009
semesters. These positions are term and do not lead to tenure.
The School: The School of Journalism seeks to add a diversity of
experiences and viewpoints to an outstanding full-time faculty of thirteen
committed teachers and scholars. The School features modern computer-equipped
classrooms, and participates in master's and doctoral degree programs in the
College of Mass Communication and Media Arts. Faculty have the opportunity to
participate in the College's new Global Media Research Center. The School is
fully accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass
Communication.* The Carbondale campus has an enrollment of about 22,000 and
annually ranks among the top institutions in the nation for producing minority
graduates. It is located in picturesque and highly livable southern Illinois.
